L Kae Interiors bio picture
  • Welcome Friends!

L Kae Interiors is a full service interior design company and this is my blog which will share my journey of work, inspirations, collections of styled thoughts, and a little bit of coffee talk (okay, probably more than a little, but rather a good amount of caffeine!) and even a little laughter along the way! This will be for the practical, the pretty, and everyone in between..So hang on! Remember, Ideas won't keep, something must be done about them!

Breakfast Benches….

Hey Friends! Have you had a wonderful week? I hope so! I know I’ve been busy and I’m off to Charleston for the weekend (can you tell I LOVE it there?!? And if you’re asking, yes I want to move there, just trying to figure out how to make it work!).  Saturday I am headed to the Custom Home and Remodeling show which I am really excited about!! Hopefully I can fill you all in next week with all my great finds!

As many of you have gathered, I’m a coffee lover.  These past few months I tend to have to have my coffee on the run, in the car, at my desk, iced in the afternoon, but rarely enjoyed at the table.  It’s been a rare moment I have just been able to sit, relax, and enjoy my morning treat which has inspired today’s post.  I LOVE the idea of a breakfast room that has incorporated bench style seating.  To me, the concept just evokes a sense of relaxation.  Whether a free floating furniture style piece or a built-in banquette, the possibilities are endless.  I know I would be able to enjoy my morning coffee well into the afternoon in any of these settings!

I know there isn’t a breakfast table here, but can’t you just imagine a beautiful round table at this banquette?!?

So, what do you think? Are you open to the idea of having a bench or a banquette versus just chairs? Do you have a favorite?

Hope you enjoy your weekend! Do something inspiring:)See ya next week!

Laundry Lovin’

Hello Friends!! How’s was your week?
It’s been a whirlwind two weeks over here at L Kae, but let me tell you – I LOVE being busy with work!! It feels great!

So I have compiled some amazing images of Laundry Rooms that I am truly lusting over! I love when spaces that are  quite often overlooked, such as a Laundry Room are well designed.  No need to just close the door in any of these rooms… and I can tell you right now, if one were mine, I would be happy to do your laundry!

Reading List…

Hello Friends! How’s your week going?

Were you inspired the other day with the great images of Book displays? As promised here’s a few shots of how I keep most of my books…. Stacked on an old trolley cart I got at an Antique Market.  I think this is a little more interesting than a keeping them organized on a bookshelf!

I really do Love Design Books…. they are just one of those things that make me happy! I enjoy perusing the Internet and looking at images, however there is just something about flipping through a book or magazine that the Internet will never have.
Here’s a list of my 10 favorites from my collection…

1. The Way We Live: An Ultimate Treasury for Global Design by Stafford Cliff

2. American Modern by Thomas O’Brien

3. The Elements of Style

4. Recycled Home by Mark and Sally Bailey

5. Suburban Nation: The Rise sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream by Andres Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, and Jeff Speck

6. Old & New by Katherine Sorrell

7. Rooms to Inspire in the Country by Annie Kelly

8. Coastal Style by Sally Haden & Alice Whately

9. At Home with White by Atlanta Bartlett

10. Building with Reclaimed Materials by Wim Pauwels (Beta Plus publishing)

So do you have any favorite design books? I would love to hear from you and learn what I need to add to my collection.

Enjoy your day!

Megan Daly - Good to know. I have been wanting some fun decorative design books. I think I just might add these to my… to buy list.

PS love love the vintage cart. So cute. You have great taste. ;)

Book Collection Storage…

Hello Friends!!
Hope your weekend was splendid!! This was the first weekend, in a LONG time that I was actually home!! It felt amazing to be able to have no plans and just relax.  I cleaned up and did LOTS of organizing… I actually feel slightly refreshed! Believe it or not I have a pretty good looking desk under all the piles;)

I actually was able to sit on the sofa, sort through the stacks on neglected magazines that have accumulated over the last few month while I have been traveling as well as some of my favorite design books.  I keep most of my design books on an old cart in my living room for easy access.  They are in piles, sorted, but not super neat.  These kinds of books I love to have out and the more their are, the better I like it!

I don’t generally like the word Library, because it feels slightly stuffy.  If I am going to enjoy a good read or a great inspiration book, I want it to be cozy.  Somewhere that has some character.  A place I can sit with my coffee and just relax.

Here’s are some great inspirations of how others keep there books displayed…

Elise Lowerison - This home is a fabulous vacation home! I love the designs, the simplicity of clean lines, and the great color mixing and matching. The window treatment in the last picture especially catches my eye. I came across your post this afternoon while browsing interior design blogs and the topic of window treatment selection was very interesting to me. It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty. Thank you for writing and as a special thanks to you and your readers, I would like to offer a 20% off coupon using this code upon checkout: BLG20.

Sherry - I really love this kitchen and would love to see the rest of the house!! I love how this kitchen shows how fantastic a smaller kitchen (small in the design world anyway) with regular appliances can look!

August 3, 2010 - 9:38 am

Sherry - I really love this kitchen! I love the fact that it is a normal sized kitchen with basic appliances and it looks amazing! There aren’t many examples of kitchens like this in design magazines!!

Sherry - I guess one post just wasn’t enough! Sorry about that the first time it said there were errors so I did it again!
